The Show Must Go on ..

But at what cost?

There are some musical theatre productions that entertain us.  There are some that uplift us, and there are some that leave us reflecting long after the final curtain falls.

TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is undoubtedly one of them.

Most of us know the songs. We recognise the powerful voice, the electrifying performances and the energy that made Tina Turner one of the world’s most celebrated performers.

But behind the music lies an extraordinary story of resilience.

As the production unfolds, audiences witness Tina’s journey through fame, personal struggle and an abusive relationship with Ike Turner. While the world saw a superstar commanding the stage, “Tina” the musical reveals the strength it took to keep performing through some of the darkest chapters of her life.

It raises a question many of us have probably never considered.

How often do we assume that success means happiness?

Standing beneath bright stage lights, surrounded by applause and admiration, it can be easy to believe someone’s life is exactly as it appears. Yet TINA – The Tina Turner Musical reminds us that appearances can hide unimaginable challenges.

Throughout the performance, the audience became completely immersed in Tina’s story. Cheers erupted for her courage and determination, while the portrayal of Ike Turner drew audible boos and hisses from the theatre. It was a powerful reminder of how deeply live performance can connect an audience with the people and stories unfolding on stage.

Then came the music.

From Nutbush City Limits and Proud Mary to Simply The Best, every iconic song carried even greater meaning when heard within the context of Tina’s remarkable journey. By the finale, it was impossible not to feel the energy spread throughout the theatre as the audience were once again on their feet for a well-deserved standing ovation.

Perhaps the greatest message this production leaves us with is that strength often comes from the most unexpected places.

Tina Turner became a hero to millions through her music, but her story also reminds us that even the strongest people sometimes need hope, support and the courage to begin again.

TINA – The Tina Turner Musical is far more than a celebration of legendary songs. It’s a powerful story of resilience, determination and the human spirit.

If you haven’t experienced this unforgettable musical theatre production, I’d encourage you to book it.

And when the music starts… Don’t be surprised if you find yourself dancing in the aisles with new friends, and fellow Tina fans.
