Press Night at The Lowry Theatre

Well, this was a first for me personally.

I was invited to my first ever press night, by The Lowry Theatre, Manchester! “Thank you so much for the complimentary seats and Press Night Invitation”. I am so grateful.

On the downside, it meant that I was driving! Oh … the traffic. A wintery night. Poorly lit motorways. Road Works. An accident. Heavy wind and rain. Just two of us on this occasion, and I could not wait to get off the motorway in rush hour.

But, after our pre-theatre wine and dine (orange juice for me) Matthew Bourne’s Edward Scissorhands New Adventure had the wow factor in every sense.

A press night too! It was quite amazing to be sitting amongst Theatre Critics and Theatre Bloggers who are regularly invited to review a Theatre or Stage Performance performance which sometimes also includes celebrities!

Edward Scissorhands, Matthew Bournes New Adventure was enchanting from start to finish, with brightly coloured stage sets, and creative costumes.. 🎭 It will no doubt capture your heart, as it did mine.

A stage performance brought to life with a bittersweet humour for the incomplete boy, after the eccentric inventor passes away, leaving Edward alone in a remote castle.

With scissors for hands, Edward begins a journey which will lead him to suburbia, where he finds kindness in a woman. She see’s beyond Edwards sunken eyes, and the many scares upon his face and embraces Edwards awkwardness and gentleness, which is not without its challenges.

This was a captivating stage performance, and piece of theatre was closer to contemporary dance than ballet, but undoubtedly a modern and captivating tale brought to life that was so fresh and different we felt a little bemused in the first half. But boy, did the heartfelt storyline come to the fore in part two.
