A stunning Theatre, fast approaching its 100th birthday, opened in 1925.
Ive been to the Liverpool Empire Theatre too many times to count, but not only for West End Touring Performances, but also Music Concerts in the 1980’s.
I remember one performance in particular at The Liverpool Empire. I really wanted to see The Woman in Black, and so I got the train into Liverpool one evening. It was dark, and cold, and I was walking at a fair pace to just get inside.
This was one performance I attended alone, and possibly not the best idea, given that when anything rated above 15+ Im the person hiding behind a cushion 🤣.
This performance blew me away, because there was only 2 people on stage throughout. The story goes that a solicitor is appointed to finalise the estate of a woman who has passed. It’s the kind of spooky where the hairs on the back of your neck stand to attention.
This performance at The Liverpool Empire was not only gripping, but amplified by the fact that the trains were arriving at Liverpool Central Train Station, and the vibration could be felt in the soles of my feet as the trains drew in and out.
Since then, we have been to see all of the following and more at The Liverpool Empire Theatre :
Kinky Boots The Musical. Shrek. The King & I the Musical. Ghost. Phantom of The Opera. Chicago. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Beauty & The Beast. Benidorm. Jamie The Musical. Cilla The Musical. Some guys have all the luck. Cats The Musical. The Lion King. Our list or organised day trips by coach continues, and the list and variety grows year on year.
A much loved stunning performing arts venue in a prime location. Seats more than the London Palladium too!
