Culture Calendar Women’s Social Group enjoyed a spectacular night of performing arts and live music as the iconic Kylie Minogue lit up the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool during her Tension Tour.

What. A. Night!

More than 13,000 fans filled the arena, many of them women from across Merseyside and West Lancashire, ready for an evening of glamour, glitter, and pure entertainment.

Pre-Show Magic and Merseyside Sparkle

The excitement began hours before showtime. From the buzzing atmosphere at the Albert Dock to cocktails and our pre-theatre dinner experience, everything set the perfect tone for a night out with friends.

Dressed in sequins and sparkle, Culture Calendar members laughed, toasted, and danced their way through the evening, showing what our women’s social group over 40 is all about — joy, friendship, and unforgettable cultural experiences.

A Celebration of Music, Friendship, and Culture

From the moment Kylie appeared on stage, it was pure magic. Her live performance was a masterclass in stage presence, music, and costume theatre — flawless lighting, a live band, dazzling visuals, and of course, those iconic hits.

We danced and sang in perfect harmony with thousands of fellow fans, forming an unspoken sisterhood for one night only. Truly, a cultural memory that will stay with us.

Swing into Christmas was a night of timeless jazz music, festive sparkle, and unforgettable live entertainment—an experience perfectly suited for women who love performing arts and are looking to expand their social circle.

As the proud owner of Culture Calendar, I knew this magical pre-christmas music concert would be a hit, set in the breathtaking surroundings of St George’s Hall Concert Room, Liverpool.

This historic, and elegant venue provided the perfect backdrop for a celebratory night of friendship, laughter, and cultural delight.

From the moment the 30-piece Swing Orchestra took to the stage, we were transported back to the golden age of jazz.

With toe-tapping rhythms and swoon-worthy melodies, the orchestra delivered a spectacular set of festive swing tunes that had us smiling, swaying—and in some cases—singing right along.

The concert paid timeless tribute to jazz legends like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Billie Holiday. These beloved classics were brought back to life with bold, fresh arrangements and masterful musicianship that truly captured the spirit of the season.

As Culture Calendar evolved from organising memorable cultural experiences it is still to the forefront of my mind as I recall our party being swept away by unforgettable renditions of “New York, New York,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” and “That’s Life.” It was truly a musical feast!

A shared experience that brought together women from all walks of life who simply love great company, great music, and great nights out.

At Culture Calendar, planning every detail, from venues, tickets, to transport and table plans, our mission has always been to provide “Entertainment Made Easy”— which has now evolved worldwide to Beyond the Spotlight UK Podcast.

Along the journey, we found ourselves sharing the carriage with a wonderfully festive family travelling independently, whose energy captured the spirit of the day perfectly (pictured here)

Candlelight music concerts have transformed how we enjoy live music, blending classical elegance with modern pop favourites in iconic venues across the UK. Our recent visit to St George’s Hall Liverpool for a Coldplay string quartet tribute was a perfect example of how magical these nights can be.

Gathered in the historic Concert Room, surrounded by architectural grandeur, our Culture Calendar ladies settled in for a truly memorable evening.

As the lights dimmed and the room filled with anticipation, the flicker of candlelight created a warm, intimate atmosphere. Glasses in hand and hearts full of excitement, we waited for that first unmistakable chord.

The string quartet, introduced with charm and grace, performed Coldplay’s greatest hits — from Fix You to Sky Full of Stars — with elegance and emotion. The music, the setting, and the company made for a soulful and uplifting night out.

It wasn’t just a concert – it was a shared moment of culture, connection, and community. We found ourselves wondering about all the incredible performances that had taken place in this landmark over the past 150 years… and how lucky we were to have added our own story to that history.

For many of us, it was a reminder of the joy of live entertainment, the beauty of Liverpool’s heritage venues, and the simple pleasure of enjoying music with friends. We left with glowing hearts and can’t wait to return to St George’s Hall again soon.

Some concerts exceed all expectations — and André Rieu’s classical music concert in Liverpool was one of those unforgettable nights. Performed at the M&S Bank Arena, the world-renowned violinist led his Johann Strauss Orchestra in a spectacular display of music, colour, and showmanship that left our Culture Calendar group absolutely spellbound.

Surrounded by fellow classical music enthusiasts, many of us enjoyed a relaxed pre-concert dinner with friends before taking our seats. From the moment the musicians appeared in shimmering ball gowns and tuxedos, the night became a joyful celebration of music and theatre. The performance featured a delightful mix of traditional waltzes, operatic solos, familiar melodies — and even a surprise visit from a pantomime bull, adding a touch of humour to the elegance.

Balloon drops, audience dancing, and standing ovations made the atmosphere electric. We were so moved by the performance. No need to upgrade our seats for a closer view either!

It was a heartwarming and uplifting night with new friends and familiar faces too. This live orchestral concert experience will stay with us for years to come — the perfect example of the joy of shared cultural experiences through Culture Calendar.

So memorable … we gave it five stars from Culture Calendar.

Some performances stay with you long after the final applause.

Andrea Bocelli’s unforgettable concert was one of those occasions. From the moment he stepped onto the stage, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation, emotion and extraordinary musical talent. Adding to an already remarkable evening, his son Matteo Bocelli joined the performance, treating the audience to both a beautiful duet with his father and impressive solo performances of his own.

Culture Calendar has always embraced a wide variety of live entertainment, and this memorable evening perfectly reflected that spirit. While theatre and musical theatre remain at the heart of many cultural journeys, our community also discovered the magic of world-class concerts, opera and classical music.

The decision to attend was made by our members, proving that variety truly is the spice of life. By listening to what our audience wanted to experience, Culture Calendar created opportunities to enjoy exceptional performances together.

The evening began with a relaxed pre-concert meal, giving everyone the opportunity to catch up with friends, welcome new faces and build the sense of community that became such an important part of every cultural experience.

Then came the performance.

Andrea and Matteo Bocelli captivated the audience with breathtaking vocals, warmth and remarkable stage presence. One of the most unforgettable moments came when Andrea performed without a microphone or musical accompaniment, allowing the sheer beauty and power of his voice to fill the arena. It was a moment of complete silence, admiration and genuine awe.

Looking back, evenings like this helped shape Culture Calendar’s understanding of what makes live performance so memorable. They were never simply about attending an event; they were about sharing extraordinary experiences, creating lasting memories and discovering the emotional connection that live entertainment creates.

Today, those years of attending performances, organising cultural experiences and witnessing audiences respond to world-class artists continue to inspire our theatre reviews, cultural storytelling and Beyond the Spotlight UK entertainment podcast.

If you enjoy theatre, concerts, musical theatre, performing arts and the stories behind unforgettable live entertainment, we’d love you to continue the journey with us.

A Sizzling Night of Theatre & Entertainment in Blackpool

Culture Calendar Women’s Social Group enjoyed an unforgettable day out filled with friendship, fun, and fabulous entertainment! After a relaxing afternoon in Lytham St Annes, we made our way to The Winter Gardens Theatre, Blackpool for a dazzling performance of the iconic Chicago the Musical.

This legendary Broadway classic had us hooked from the opening number! Based on a true story from 1920s America, Chicago tells the tale of Roxie Hart — a woman accused of murder who turns her trial into a media circus with the help of a slick-talking lawyer. It’s a bold, cheeky, and stylish show about fame, scandal, and the American dream.

From the sassy choreography to the unforgettable soundtrack, every moment on stage was pure theatrical magic. It’s no surprise our group voted it one of the best nights out we’ve had!

Our luxury coach journey along the Fylde coast gave us the perfect chance to unwind, chat, and enjoy scenic views before the show. It was the perfect blend of leisure and live entertainment – exactly what Culture Calendar is all about.

Originally enjoyed as part of Culture Calendar’s earlier community events, this memorable steam train journey reflects the audience experiences that continue to inspire our reviews, cultural storytelling and the Beyond the Spotlight UK entertainment podcast today. What began as local cultural experiences has evolved into stories and conversations shared with audiences across the UK and beyond.

We journeyed back in time for the second time, by popular demand, on a magical steam train adventure. Members asked if they could invite family and friends to share the experience, and we were delighted to welcome them aboard.

A truly unforgettable day of nostalgia, scenic views, luxury dining and laughter made this the perfect escape from everyday life.

Our luxury coach journey whisked us through the rolling Lancashire countryside before we stepped aboard a magnificent vintage steam train and were instantly transported back in time.

With panoramic views of the Irwell Valley, attentive service and a glass of prosecco in hand, we settled in for an afternoon filled with charm and elegance.

As the train gently made its way through the countryside, we enjoyed a delicious four-course meal served at our table, allowing everyone to relax and savour the experience together.

Looking back, days like these helped shape Culture Calendar’s understanding of how memorable experiences bring people together. They continue to influence the theatre reviews, cultural features, travel writing and podcast conversations we share today.

Rolling Stone wasn’t wrong when they described The Cher Show as “an explosion of fabulous excess that survives against all odds under the weight of all its sequins.”

Cher – the iconic singer, actress, and trailblazer – has spent decades dazzling the world with her voice, resilience, and fearless stage presence. Her life story, told through this high-energy jukebox musical, is far from ordinary. From heartbreak and dyslexia to global superstardom, The Cher Show is a powerful reminder that things aren’t always as they seem — and that perseverance can shine brighter than glitter.

The Culture Calendar Ladies Social Group travelled in comfort on a luxury coach trip from Southport, Ormskirk, Maghull and Skelmersdale to the Manchester Opera House, with hours of leisure time before the show.

The evening performance was a riot of colour, sequins, and beloved hits — including “Believe,” “Just Like Jesse James,” “Not Enough Love,” and “Strong Enough.”

Thanks to our fantastic stalls seats, we danced in the aisles as the theatre rocked with energy. And in a fun twist, just when the ushers had finished telling people to put phones away, the cast invited everyone to record the final number — cue a sea of phones and beaming faces.

If you missed this unforgettable event, don’t worry — more theatre trips, live concerts, and cultural adventures are coming soon. Sign up to the Culture Calendar newsletter and never miss your seat on the next great night out!
